SmartLib adopts the Microsoft Online Privacy Policy Statement structure and content (last updated February 2017 - privacy.microsoft.com/en-us/privacystatement), with the following distinct features:


  • Our service collects the following information about your interaction with SmartLib sites and services:


    • Username and password: These are the unique credentials per user to allow secure interaction with our backend server. Passwords are encrypted upon storage and cannot be decrypted by our staff.

    • Email: We use this information to verify your account upon creation. We also allow you to update your password using your email addess. We do not share this information with third parties, or to other users of SmartLib.

    • Name and Surname: We display this information within the application when users try to request books from other users. This information is not shared with third parties.

    • Telephone: We display this information to the users of the SmartLib so they can get in touch with a book owner in order to lent or return a book.

    • Using the camera: We require camera permissions so we can scan the barcodes of the books to build our library. We do not store or share any input from the camera

    • Reading contacts: We require this permission so we can autocomplete relevant parts during your registration. We do not share this information with third parties, or to the users of the application.

    • We receive certain standard information that your device or browser sends to every website you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and language, access times and referring Web site addresses. This may also include:

      • Details of how you used our service, such as your SmartLib queries.

      • Internet protocol address.

      • Device event information such as crashes, system activity, hardware settings, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and referral URL.

      • Cookies that may uniquely identify your browser visiting our website.
